4th grade Writing Assignment Name___________________ Class______
This year’s music program is about taking care of our planet earth. Think about some of the things you do at home, at school or out in the community that helps to clean up the earth. Maybe you plant a garden each year, or collect cans or newspapers. Maybe you and your relatives get together to plant trees or flowers in the spring.
Write 2 paragraphs, at least 5 sentences in each paragraph, telling what you do to take care of the earth. If you are not doing a good job at that, maybe you have a plan for what you would like to start doing. Use descriptive adjectives and colorful words. I will be grading on ideas so use many details and word choice. I will also be grading on conventions. The final draft is due March 20. Your outline or rough draft is due March 6.

March Music News

Dear Parents,
In the month of March all 4th graders will be developing performance skills such as posture, singing in tune, correct breathing for a rich tone. We will use these skills as we prepare for our spring program entitled, “Save the Earth”, which will include songs of caring for the earth. Some students will have speaking parts and a few solo parts. 4th grade choir has been sounding great and will perform at the program. Nice school clothes will be appropriate for the program. Our program will be given at the Sparta Senior High Auditorium on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m.
All 4th graders have a writing assignment, which is due final draft, March 20th.
5th graders are getting ready for testing on recorders, performing their own compositions, the C scale and performing in a team. A few students have been coming unprepared to class. Any help in finding lost recorders would be appreciated. There were many great compositions so please do encourage boys and girls to practice so they may perform well on their tests. Thank you.
After recorder testing is finished 5th graders will be getting into listening teams and answering questions about the 11 compositions we have been studying. After we have done the matching game 5 times there will be a written test on the listening pieces (in April). The top 6 students will compete in a listening competition held in Cashton in May. In the last few years I have had teams going on to a state competition, which means the students have been learning a lot about music and composers.
5th grade choir is busy preparing for their trip to Winona April 3rd. I am still looking for chaperones for that day. We are purchasing T shirts. Please send sizes in ASAP so we can get them ordered. Thank you so much. They sound great and will look great, too.
