May 2010
Dear Parents,
We still have a lot happening in the music room!

Congratulations to the 4th grade on a fantastic program. I was so proud of them all!

4th graders are working with their listening packets, trying to choose the composer, style, title and form of the music we have been studying. We Have been playing a matching game with cards for the compositions. This week they will have an assignment of writing 3 sentences and filling out a Venn diagram about each of their 2 favorite pieces. We will be learning about instruments of the orchestra (if we have time) and will finish the year reviewing rhythms and singing some of our favorite songs.

5th graders have been singing social studies songs and songs made famous in movies, and on stage. They will be working on one more big rhythm project playing their patterns in teams of 4. We will also end the year singing our favorite songs. Daijon Benford, Devon Smith, Nic Swiatly, Olivia Stewart, Tori Hanson, Barbara Kaftan (Nick Jankowski alternate) competed on May 4 in the regional Music Listening Contest. Both teams received a 2nd place rating. Congratulations to them!

4th grade choir will be singing at Rolling Hills, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2:00. They will return in time for buses. Parents are welcome to come and watch. 4th grade choir will finish May 17th.

5th grade choir sounded great at the songfest in Winona. 4th and 5th grade choir will sing at awards day. Please encourage your son or daughter to continue their musical careers. It will provide a lifetime of pleasure!

Musically,
Mrs. Bright
