December music news

December Music News, 2009

The big news, of course, is the 5th grade music program. The boys and girls are working very hard on getting their parts memorized. We will perform “Holiday Magic” Dec. 15 at 7:00 pm at the Sparta Senior High Auditorium. All students need a flashlight for the program. Please label and bring by Dec. 11th.We will put on the program in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. also as a dress rehearsal. Boys and girls should come at 6:45 p.m. the evening of the 15th and stay with their parents in the seats until I dismiss them by class to go and line up in the hallway. Nice school clothes is appropriate for the program. Right after vacation we’ll begin with recorders. It would be a good idea to bring recorders to school now so they are ready to go after the holiday break.
4th grade is doing well on recorders. I hope you are hearing improvement at home. I encourage boys and girls to take recorders home and practice. It's the only way to improve! Please return green practice sheets to school by the second week in January for grading purposes. They will soon be composing a song of their own to perform for me. This will be the major part of their grade for the 2nd trimester. It will take some practice time at home to do well.
The 4th graders will have a holiday sing-along on Dec. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the cafetorium. Classes will perform a song, perform on recorders and sing holiday songs together. Join us for a fun time!
5th grade choir will be marching and singing in the Christmas parade, this Friday, Dec.4th at 6:00 p.m. Line up at 5:45 on the corner of N.Water by Park Bank. Bring a canned good for a glow stick. Hot chocolate will be sold in the bank parking lot this year. We will also sing at the park at the end of the parade for about 10 minutes. Please arrange a place to meet your child at the park (by the stage or fire are good locations). Wear hand and toe warmers, your hats and bring a bear to carry. On Dec. 11th, next Friday, they will be caroling at the Morrow home from 4:30-5:00 P.M. Parents are responsible for getting singers to both these events. Wear your Santa hats! We will also be performing at the 5th grade music program. Thank you for supporting these extra activities. They mean a lot to the students.

Take time to relax and enjoy some of the many wonderful musical events that Sparta is offering this holiday season. It's a great way to spend time with the family.

Happy Holidays!Mrs. Bright

November Music News, 2009

November, 2009

4th graders will be practicing with recorders the next 2 months. They should bring them every day to music. After forgetting their recorder 2 times, they will be spending recess with me so encourage them, after practicing at home, to return it to their backpack as soon as they have finished. Look for a green sheet to sign when they practice at home. Practicing will improve their music grade and their musicianship. Please set up a convenient practice time and space with your child. They will also be practicing a song to sing for the fourth grade holiday sing-along, scheduled for December 21st in the afternoon.

5th graders will be busy working on their holiday program, "Holiday magic" which will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 1:30 and 7:00 PM at the Senior High auditorium.
For our literacy project, all 5th graders will writing about their family holiday traditions or writing a poem. Any help you can provide for this will be appreciated.

5th grade choir will be singing for the Veteran's Program at 8:15 AM Nov. 11th in the big gym at MV. They will also be singing in the Sparta Holiday Parade on December 4th at 6:00 PM. We walk and sing carols during the parade and will sing in the new shelter building once we get to the park. Each student will receive a glow stick necklace for contributing a non perishable food item. If they have holiday hats to wear, other glow sticks, or teddy bears it will all add to the enjoyment of the walk. We will also go caroling at the Morrow home on Friday after school, scheduled for Dec. 11th. Please consider chaperoning for these events.

Musically,
Mrs. Bright

Dear Choir Parents and Students,

‘Tis the season’ for singing! The choir will go caroling at the Morrow Home Friday, December 11th from 4:30-5:00 p.m.. Parents are responsible for getting sons and daughters there and back home again. Please drop students off at 4:20 at the north side entrance (not Water Street front entrance) facing the parking lot so we can get organized in the large lobby area. We will sing in the dining area and anyone is welcome to come and watch and/or help chaperone.
I have signed the choir up to walk in the Children’s Holiday Parade, Friday December 4th at 6:00 p.m. See the other note for more directions. I realize some students may already be expected to walk for other organizations. The parade starts at the corner of Franklin and Water Street and will travel down Water to Oak, turn east on Oak and travel down to the Evans-Bosshard Park where the parade will end. Glow sticks will be handed out to participants who bring a canned good. PARENTS, PLEASE MEET STUDENTS AT THE END OF THE PARADE AT THE NEW SHELTER BUILDING.WE WILL BE SINGING A FEW SONGS FOR THE LIGHTING OF THE PARK. PLEASE MAKE PLANS AS TO HOW YOU WILL FIND EACH OTHER AT THE PARK. Please return the permission slip below to me by Thursday, November 19th so I have an idea of how many can sing at the park. Even if students are walking with a different group, they can certainly come join us to sing for the lighting of the park. I would like at least 6 to 8 chaperones to walk with us in the parade.

There is no transportation for the parade. Parents are responsible for getting students to and from the event. Thank you for your extra efforts in this. The theme is Beary Merry Holiday so carry a bear or wear a bear costume, Santa or reindeer hats. It all helps to get us in the holiday spirit. Please return the bottom portion by Nov. 19.
Happy holidays!
